"Too Much, Too Little, Too Late"
LYRICS:
Yes, it's over, call it a day
Sorry that it had to end this way
No reason to pretend
We knew it had to end some day, this way
Guess it's over, the kids are gone
What's the use of tryin' to hang on
Somewhere we lost the key
So little left for you and me and it's clear to see
Too much, too little, too late to lie again with you
Too much, too little, too late to try again with you
We're in the middle of ending something that we knew
It's over
Oh, it was over
Too much, too little, too late to ever try again
Too much, too little, too late, let's end it being friends
Too much, too little, too late, we knew it had to end
Ah, it's over
It's over
Guess it's over, the chips are down (whoa)
Nearly all our bridges tumbled down
Whatever chance we try, let's face it why deny
It's over (It's over)
It's over
Too much, too little, too late to ever try again
Too much, too little, too late, let's end it being friends
Too much, too little, too late, we knew it had to end
And it's over
And it's over
And it's over
Too much, too little, too late to ever try again
Too much, too little, too late, let's end it being friends

"Too Much, Too Little, Too Late" is a song performed by singers Johnny Mathis and Deniece Williams. Released as a single in 1978, it reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 pop chart, number nine on the Canadian Singles Chart and number three on the UK Singles Chart. It also topped the US R&B and adult contemporary charts. The duo released a follow-up duet, "You're All I Need to Get By", peaking at number 47 on the Hot 100. The single was a comeback of sorts for Mathis as it was his first number one since his chart-topping hit, 1957's "Chances Are". The success of the duet with Williams prompted Mathis to record duets with a variety of partners including Dionne Warwick, Natalie Cole, Gladys Knight, and Nana Mouskouri. A compilation album also called Too Much, Too Little, Too Late released by Sony Music in 1995 featured the title track among other songs by the duo.

MY RECLAMATION
Music by Sam Harris, Kevin Fisher & Todd Schroeder. Lyrics by Sam Harris

When the river is too wide to cross
And the water is raging too fast

When we see the destination, but cannot make our way --
We will build a bridge of brotherhood and cross the river at last

When the air is cold and black with hate
And the fog of condemnation burns our eyes

When the shadows of oppression keep us hidden from the sun --
You can climb upon my shoulders until we reach the skies

For its not enough to want it - need it
And deserving doesnt make it true

I believe hate fails and love prevails
Take a stand, demand justice overdue

Singing -
No one can take what is not theirs to give
No one can break you or choose how you live

And I dont need permission to have what is mine
This is my reclamation, this is my right divine

I am weary of hostility
And I am saddened by the ugliness of fear

Im confounded by morality that builds a bitter wall
But I will bare my heart to you so all the world will hear

That it is not enough to want it - need it
Just to forward and delete

I believe hate fails and love prevails
Rejoice the choice, take our voices to the street

Singing
No one can take what is not theirs to give
No one can break you or choose how you live

And I dont need permission to have what is mine
This is my reclamation, this is my right divine

For all those before us
For those yet to come
For the sons and the daughters of violent waters

No one can take what is not theirs to give
No one can break you or choose how you live

And we wont go softly into the night
This is our reclamation, this is my right

No one can take what is not theirs to give
No one can break you or choose how you live

And I dont need permission to have what is mine
This is my reclamation, this is my declaration to all of the nation
This is my light -- to shine .

Proposition 8 (or the California Marriage Protection Act) was a ballot proposition and constitutional amendment passed in the November 2008, state elections. The measure added a new provision, Section 7.5 of the Declaration of Rights, to the California Constitution. The new section reads: Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California. By restricting the definition of marriage to opposite-sex couples, the proposition overturned the California Supreme Court's ruling of In re Marriage Cases that same-sex couples have a constitutional right to marry. The wording of Proposition 8 was precisely the same as that which had been found in Proposition 22, which, as an ordinary statute, had been invalidated by the Supreme Court. California's State Constitution put Proposition 8 into immediate effect the day after the election. The proposition did not affect domestic partnerships in California or same-sex marriages performed before November 5, 2008. Proponents of the constitutional amendment argued that exclusively heterosexual marriage was "an essential institution of society," that leaving the constitution unchanged would "result in public schools teaching our kids that gay marriage is okay," and that "gays ... do not have the right to redefine marriage for everyone else." Opponents argued that "the freedom to marry is fundamental to our society," that the California constitution "should guarantee the same freedom and rights to everyone" and that the proposition "mandates one set of rules for gay and lesbian couples and another set for everyone else." They also argued that "equality under the law is a fundamental constitutional guarantee". The campaigns for and against Proposition 8 raised $39.9 million and $43.3 million, respectively, becoming the highest-funded campaign on any state ballot that day and surpassing every campaign in the country in spending except the presidential contest. After the elections, demonstrations and protests occurred across the state and nation. Same-sex couples and government entities filed numerous lawsuits with the California Supreme Court challenging the proposition's validity and effect on previously administered same-sex marriages. In the Strauss v. Horton case, the court upheld Proposition 8, but allowed existing same-sex marriages to stand (under the Grandfather clause principle). Additional lawsuits in federal courts are still pending.

Proposition 8 (or the California Marriage Protection Act) was a ballot proposition and constitutional amendment passed in the November 2008, state elections. The measure added a new provision, Section 7.5 of the Declaration of Rights, to the California Constitution. The new section reads:

Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.

Proposition 8 was a California ballot proposition that sought to change the California Constitution to add a new section (7.5) to Article I, that would read: "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California." This change would restrict the definition of marriage to opposite-sex couples, and eliminate same-sex couples' right to marry, thereby overriding portions of the ruling of In re Marriage Cases by "carving out an exception to the preexisting scope of the privacy and due process clauses" of the state constitution. As of November 2009, when legislation legalizing same-sex marriage in Maine was defeated by referendum, same-sex marriage had been defeated in all 31 states in which it had been directly put to a popular vote.

To qualify for the ballot, Proposition 8 needed 694,354 valid petition signatures, equal to 8% of the total votes cast for governor in the November 2006 General Election. The initiative proponents submitted 1,120,801 signatures, and on June 2, 2008, the initiative qualified for the November 4, 2008 election ballot through the random sample signature check.

On July 16, 2008, the California Supreme Court denied a petition calling for the removal of Proposition 8 from the November ballot. The petition asserted the proposition should not be on the ballot on the grounds it was a constitutional revision that only the Legislature or a constitutional convention could place before voters. Opponents also argued that the petitions circulated to qualify the measure for the ballot inaccurately summarized its effect. The court denied the petition without comment. As a general rule, it is improper for courts to adjudicate pre-election challenges to a measure's substantive validity. The question of whether Proposition 8 is a constitutional amendment or constitutional revision was ruled on by the California Supreme Court on May 26, 2009, and found that it was not a revision and therefore would be upheld. They also declared that the same-sex marriages performed prior to the passing of Prop 8 would remain valid.

Sam Harris behind the scenes of a rehearsal before his concert in New York City. Hear a medley of U2 and Stephen Sondheim as only Sam could manage to pull off. Not to mention that he rewrote Sondheim! [Gasp!]

"I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For"
U2 (music), Bono (lyrics)

I HAVE CLIMBED HIGHEST MOUNTAINS
I HAVE RUN THROUGH THE FIELDS
ONLY TO BE WITH YOU

I HAVE RUN - I HAVE CRAWLED
I HAVE SCALED THESE CITY WALLS
THESE CITY WALLS
ONLY TO BE WITH YOU

BUT I STILL HAVEN'T FOUND
WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR

I HAVE KISSED HONEY LIPS
FELT THE HEALING FINGERTIPS
IT BURNED LIKE A FIRE
THIS BURNING DESIRE

I HAVE SPOKE WITH THE TONGUE OF ANGELS
I HAVE HELD THE HAND OF A DEVIL
IT WAS WARM IN THE NIGHT
I WAS COLD AS A STONE

BUT I STILL HAVEN'T FOUND
WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR

"I'm Still Here"
Stephen Sondheim (music and lyrics)
[From the Broadway Musical;, "Follies"]
All new and altered lyrics by Sam Harris

GOOD TIMES AND BUM TIMES
IVE SEEN `EM ALL AND MY DEAR,
I'M STILL HERE
JEAN GEORGE'S SOMETIMES,
SOMETIMES A BAGEL AND SCHMERE
BUT I'M HERE

I BEEN IN HITS AND I BEEN PANNED
SLEPT AT THE RITZ AND IN A VAN
I HAD A SIDEKICK IN ED MCMAHON, FOR A YEAR
I'M SAM AND I'M AN ALCOHOLIC AND I'M HERE

I'VE PLAYED ON BROADWAY,
THE WHITE HOUSE
AND CARNEGIE HALL
- AND I'M HERE
GOLD RECORDS ONE DAY,
THE NEXT, BARGAIN BINS AT THE MALL
BUT I'M HERE

FIRST YOU'RE JUST BANGING ON THE DOOR
THEN YOU'RE AN ARTIST THEN A WHORE
THEN YOU'RE POLITICAL,
BLAZING SOME NEW FRONTIER
I HAD A BABY LAST YEAR AND I'M QUEER

I MADE IT THROUGH "HEY THERE,
I WATCHED YOU ON THE BOOB TUBE,
BACK WHEN THE MULLET WAS KING"
OR THE KID THAT SAID,
"HEY THERE, I SAW YOU ON YOUTUBE
I DIDN'T KNOW YOU COULD SING."

BUT YOU BROKE THE BONDS
AND YOU LOOSENED THE CHAINS
YOU STAYED WITH ME IN
GOOD TIMES AND SHAME
GOOD TIMES AND SHAME
YOU WERE ALWAYS BY MY SIDE

AND WE STILL HAVEN'T FOUND
WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR
OH OH OH
I STILL HAVEN'T FOUND WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR
I'M STILL HERE AND I STILL HAVEN'T FOUND
WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR.

I STILL HAVEN'T FOUND WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR is a song by rock band U2. The second track from their 1987 album The Joshua Tree, it was released as the album's second single in May 1987. The song is influenced by gospel music and its lyrics describe spiritual yearning.

The song became the band's second number-one single on the US Billboard Hot 100, after the album's first single, "With or Without You". "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" peaked at number-six on the UK Singles Chart the Dutch Top 40. It was named the 93rd greatest song by Rolling Stone on their list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time".

"I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" originated from a demo variously titled "The Weather Girls" and "Under the Weather" that the band recorded in a jam session. Bassist Adam Clayton called the demo's melody "a bit of a one-note groove", while an unconvinced The Edge, the band's guitarist, compared it to "'Eye of the Tiger' played by a reggae band". However, the band liked the drum part played by drummer Larry Mullen, Jr. Co-producer Daniel Lanois said, "It was a very original beat from Larry. We always look for those beats that would qualify as a signature for the song. And that certainly was one of those. It had this tom-tom thing that he does and nobody ever understands. And we just didn't want to let go of that beat, it was so unique." Lanois encouraged Mullen to continue developing the "weird drum pattern" beyond the demo.

I'M STILL HERE is more than just a show-stopping number in Stephen Sondheim's Follies. It is a cultural roadmap of the American fads, media darlings, politics, and excess of the last century.

Carlotta Campion has been through it all, and she has been brought to life by such great ladies of the stage as Yvonne De Carlo, Nancy Walker, Carol Burnett, Shirley MacLaine, and Ann Miller. Told by a character who has "seen it all", and sung by an Actress whose actual life adds reality and resonance, if it has been cast well, this song strikes a chord with every audience member.

Those who have "been there" a bit themselves can identify, full of the knowledge that they, too, are "still here". Those who are too young to have gone through the mill themselves can still admire the guts and determination of someone who has, and has lived to tell about it - to sing about it - with electrifying passion. Unfortunately, as time marches on, there are less and less people who understand the references in the lyrics - it has become a bit of a trivia game to get them all.

Yet understanding them gives the listener added depth and context that make it worth the hunt. So, to help out, I've assembled a breakdown of the sometimes obscure references in I'm Still Here.
